Rangers sign Derrick Turnbow

UPDATE: The Texas Rangers have signed Turnbow. Apparently Turnbow's relationship with pitching coach Mike Maddux made the difference. More from T.R Sullivan at mlb.com.

The Florida Marlins are one of three apparent finalists for the services of reliever Derrick Turnbow. The Pirates are known to be interested as well. Joe Frisaro of mlb.com has more on Turnbow, who is trying to come back from an injury-riddled 2008 season.

Mets Make Offer to Lowe

The New York Mets have made an initial offer to free agent pitcher Derek Lowe. According to John Harper of the NY Daily News, the club has presented a three-year offer worth slightly more than $36 milllion. Sources say the Mets don't want to go beyond three years, although a fourth-year option is still a possibility. Harper goes on to discuss the recent trade rumors regarding Andruw Jones. While the Mets aren't anxious to take on Jones, they might be willing to do so if they could unload Luis Castillo on the Dodgers.
