The New York Mets have apparently upgraded their offer to pitcher Oliver Perez, as they attempt to solidify their starting rotation. The offer is believed to be more than the 3-year, $30 million they apparently first put on the table, and sources say they are willing to go to four years. The Mets recently signed free-agent Freddy Garcia to an incentive-laden minor league deal.

Braves Sign Derek Lowe...Mets Look to Perez
Derek Lowe has agreed to terms on a 4-year, $60 million deal with the Atlanta Braves. The Braves were willing to guarantee a fourth year, which along with a $15 million annual salary, was enough to sway Lowe their way. Mark Bowman from mlb.com has more.

Marlins Sign Jay Gibbons
The Florida Marlins have signed outfielder Jay Gibbons to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. Gibbons played part of last season in the Milwaukee farm system. After seven years with the Orioles, he was hit with injuries and a Sports Illustrated report linked him to human growth hormone, which he admitted to and was suspended for 15 games for. According to Mark Bowman at mlb.com, the Atlanta Braves have reached an agreement with Japanese right-hander Kenshin Kawakami, pending a physical. The deal is apparently for three years. The Braves are trying to fill out there rotation, having lost John Smoltz to Boston and Tim Hudson to injury. They obtained Javier Vazquez earlier in the offseason and are in on the Derek Lowe pursuit.

Tim Redding Agrees To Deal With Mets...Pedro Could Return
The NY Daily News informs us of the Tim Redding signing with the Mets.
UPDATE: Jon Heyman of SI and Ken Davidoff of the Daily News agree the deal with Redding is close to final.
The Mets apparently are the front runners for pitcher Tim Redding and a deal could be finalized as early as this afternoon, according to Andrew Marchand of 1050 ESPN Radio in New York.
Also in Mets world, Pedro Martinez wants to return, saying he feels he has unfinished business after injuries plagued him during his 4-year deal with the team. Anthony DiComo of mlb.com tells us Pedro's agent Fernando Cuza will be meeting with the Mets next week.

Bradley Agrees to Join Cubs...
The Nats won't be getting Milton Bradley, as he agreed on a 3-year, $30 million deal with the Chicago Cubs this afternoon. The deal is pending a physical. Bradley hit .321 last year and was quite impressive when he was on the field. However, he still dealt with the occasional injuries that have plagued him in the past. More from ESPN...

Nats Looking to Add a Hitter
The Nationals are not done with their offseason shopping. So far, they've added pitcher Daniel Cabrera and landed outfielder Josh Willingham and pitcher Scott Olsen in a deal with the Marlins. They made a run at Mark Teixeira, but after losing out the Yankees, they're looking to add another power bat.
